Not everything should cross the threshold unnoticed.

Witch bells are placed at an entrance to give sound to the boundary between outside and within. Their voices move through the air whenever the door opens, marking each crossing and declaring that this entrance is watched, this home is claimed, and what passes through does not do so without notice.

Protection is not a promise that nothing difficult will ever enter. It is the deliberate act of establishing a boundary and remaining aware of what moves across it.

REIMAGINED TO FIT THE DOOR

Most witch bells are made with a closed loop that must pass over the widest part of the doorknob. If the knob is too large, ornate, or replaced by a lever handle, the bells cannot be placed where they were intended to work.

The Ravenstone Witch Bells were designed differently.

The upper ring opens completely, allowing it to pass around the narrower stem of most round knobs or lever-style handles before closing securely in place. The ring is then wrapped by hand in black hemp, transforming the functional hardware into a deliberately bound circle.

A threshold piece should not be limited by the shape of the door it was made to guard.

THE MEANING WITHIN THE MATERIALS

Seven bells form the voice of the piece. Bells are associated with clearing, protection, warning, and the disruption of stagnant or unwanted energy. Their sound marks movement through the doorway while the number seven carries the symbolism of completeness, sacred order, and a boundary made whole.

Each bell is tied individually with black organza so it can move and sound independently. Together, the seven bells create a layered voice rather than a single note.

The black organza serves both the movement and meaning of the piece. Its sheer fabric falls like a veil between the outer world and the protected interior, while allowing the bells and symbols to respond freely whenever the door moves.

The key represents access, authority, and choice. A key may open, close, admit, or deny. At the threshold, it affirms the right to decide what is welcomed within and what must remain outside.

The hand represents protection expressed through action. It is the hand that closes the door, establishes the boundary, offers welcome, or signals that something may come no farther. It carries the meanings of agency, guardianship, and the human will behind the working.

The clear drop crystal catches and refracts the light that reaches it. It represents clarity, illumination, and the revealing of what crosses the threshold—bringing light into a place where intention and awareness matter.

The black hemp carries strength, binding, protection, and containment. Wrapped around the opening ring by hand, it joins the physical structure of the bells to their spiritual purpose.

Hang the bells on the interior side of an entrance or room door and allow them to sound naturally whenever the door moves. They may also be rung deliberately after clearing a space, before prayer or ritual, or whenever a boundary needs to be consciously restored.

There is no prescribed ritual. How the bells belong within your home or practice remains entirely your own.
